King William County is part of the Greater Richmond Region and is located in the Middle Peninsula.
The county has a total area of 286 square miles (740 km2), of which 274 square miles (710 km2) is land and 12 square miles (31 km2) (4.1%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
King William County is bounded to the north by the Mattaponi River and to the south by the Pamunkey River. At West Point, the county’s largest town, the two rivers merge to form the York River.
