Kenton County is a county in the state of Kentucky.
It is in the northern part of the state.
At the time of the 2020 census, there were 169,064 people living there.
This made it the third most popular county in Kentucky, after Jefferson County and Fayette County.
Covington and Independence are the county seats for this county.
It was the only county in Kentucky with two officially recognized county seats until November 24, 2010.
The county was made in 1840 and is named for Simon Kenton, a famous frontiersman from the state’s early days.
Kenton County is part of the Northern Kentucky metro area, along with Boone and Campbell Counties.
It is also part of the Cincinnati-Middletown, OH-KY-IN Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Campbell County gave land to Kenton County on January 29, 1840, so that it could be made into a new county.
It was named after Simon Kenton, one of the first people to live in Kentucky.
The US Census Bureau says that the county covers a total area of 164 square miles (420 km2), of which 160 square miles (410 km2) are land and 4.1 square miles (11 km2) (2.5% of the total area) are water.
The county is in the outer Bluegrass area of the state.
It is at the point where the Licking River and the Ohio River meet. The county is between 139 and 293 meters (455 to 960 feet) above sea level.
