Kaufman County is a county in northeastern Texas, in the United States.
As of the census in 2020, there were 145,310 people living there.
Kaufman is the county seat.
David S. Kaufman was a U.S. Representative and minister from Texas.
Both the county, which was founded in 1848, and the city were named after him.
Kaufman County is in the city area that includes Dallas, Fort Worth, and Arlington.
In 1876, Western artist Frank Reaugh came to Kaufman County from Illinois. There, he got ideas for works like The Approaching Herd, which he made in 1902.
The U.S. Census Bureau says that the county has a total area of 808 square miles (2,090 km2), of which 781 square miles (2,020 km2) are land and 27 square miles (70 km2) (3.3% of the total area) are water.
It is in the northeast of Texas and is bordered on the southwest by the Trinity River. The east fork of that river drains the area.
