In the U.S., Jasper County is in the state of Mississippi.
At the 2020 census, there were 16,367 people living there.
In 1906, the state legislature set up two county courts, one in Paulding, which was the first county seat and was in the eastern part of the county, and another in Bay Springs, which was in the western part of the county and where the railway had been built.
The Laurel, MS Micropolitan Statistical Area includes Jasper County.
Bay Springs’ population grew faster than Paulding’s. Before 1935–1936, there was no way to get from one part of the county to the other.
The southeast part of the county, which is still mostly rural, is where most of the state’s gas and oil, timber, cattle, and chicken are made.
The county has a total area of 677 square miles (1,750 km2), of which 676 square miles (1,750 km2) are land and 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2) (0.2%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
