In the fall of 2019, a “local-option” vote made Jackson County a “wet county.” This meant that alcohol could be sold in the county seat, McKee, which is a city in the county.

As of the 2020 census, there were 12,955 people living in the county and 5,417 families.

The number of people per square mile was 37.5 (14.5/km2). There were 5978 places to live.

The county was 97.5% White, 0.4% Black or African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0% Pacific Islander, 0.8% from two or more races, and 0.9% Hispanic or Latino of any race.
