Isle of Wight County is a county in the Hampton Roads region of Virginia, United States.
It was named after the Isle of Wight in England, south of the Solent, where many of its early settlers came from.
The population was 38,606 at the time of the 2020 census.
The unincorporated village of Isle of Wight serves as the county seat.
The county of Isle of Wight is part of the Virginia Beach-Norfolk-Newport News, VA-NC Combined Statistical Area. Its northeastern limit runs along the Hampton Roads waterway.
The county has a total area of 363 square miles (940 km2), of which 316 square miles (820 km2) is land and 47 square miles (120 km2) (13.0%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
The county is bounded on the north by the James River and on the south by the Blackwater River. The terrain is largely flat, with several wetlands and pocosins.
