Lansing, Michigan’s state capital, is largely contained within the county. (Lansing is the only state capital in the United States that is not also the county seat of government.)
Michigan State University, Lansing Community College, and the Lansing Lugnuts of the Class A minor league baseball league are all located in the county.
Ingham County is part of the Lansing-East Lansing, MI Combined Statistical Area. It is included in the Mid Michigan region.
The county has a total area of 561 square miles (1,450 km2), of which 556 square miles (1,440 km2) is land and 4.6 square miles (12 km2) (0.8%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
