Hudson County is the smallest and most densely populated county in New Jersey, United States.
It is located west of the lower Hudson River, which was named after Henry Hudson, a sea captain who discovered the area in 1609.
The county seat is Jersey City, which is part of New Jersey’s Gateway Region in the New York metropolitan area and is the county’s largest city in terms of both population and area, with a 2020 population of 292,449 and a total area of 21.08 square miles (54.6 km2).
The county had 634,266 people, 246,437 households, and 148,355 families according to the 2010 United States Census. The population density per square mile was 13,731.4 (5,301.7/km2).
There were 270,335 dwellings, with a density of 5,852.5 per square mile (2,259.7/km2).
