The county was made in 1820, and in 1834 it was put together.
It is named after Patrick Henry, a founding father of the United States who was from Virginia and famous for saying, “Give me liberty, or give me death!”
The county has a total area of 420 square miles (1,100 km2), of which 416 square miles (1,080 km2) are land and 3.7 square miles (9.6 km2) (0.9%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
