New Castle is the county seat as well as the county’s largest and only city.
Raintree County, by Ross Lockridge Jr., is set primarily in Henry County.
Henry County was established in 1822 as a result of the Delaware New Purchase, which resulted from the Treaty of St. Mary’s in 1818.
It was named for Virginia Governor Patrick Henry, a patriot.
The county has a total area of 394.83 square miles (1,022.6 km2), of which 391.88 square miles (1,015.0 km2) (or 99.25%) is land and 2.96 square miles (7.7 km2) (or 0.75%) is water, according to the 2010 census.
