Henderson County is a county in Kentucky, United States.

The county is located on the Ohio River in western Kentucky, across from Evansville, Indiana.

The population was 44,793 at the time of the 2020 census.

Henderson is the county seat.

The county was established in 1798[3] and named after Richard Henderson, who purchased 17,000,000 acres (69,000 km2) of Cherokee territory, a portion of which became the county.

Henderson County is located in the West Kentucky Coal Field.

It is also included in the Evansville, IN-KY Combined Statistical Area.

The county has a total area of 466 square miles (1,210 km2), of which 437 square miles (1,130 km2) is land and 30 square miles (78 km2) (6.4%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.

The Ohio River forms the majority of the county’s northern boundary with Indiana, however some of the county sits north of the river.
