Stigler is the county seat.

The county is named after Charles N. Haskell, Oklahoma’s first governor.

The county has a total area of 625 square miles (1,620 km2), of which 577 square miles (1,490 km2) is land and 49 square miles (130 km2) (7.8%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
