Hardeman County is a county in the state of Tennessee in the United States.
As of the census in 2020, there were 25,462 people living there.
Bolivar is the county seat.
In 1823, the Tennessee General Assembly made Hardeman County out of parts of Hardin County and “Indian lands.”
It is named after Thomas J. Hardeman, who lived from 1788 to 1854 and was a key figure in the fight for Texas independence.
He fought in the Creek War and the War of 1812. He was a representative for the Republic of Texas.
The county has a total area of 670 square miles (1,700 km2), of which 668 square miles (1,730 km2) are land and 2.6 square miles (6.7 km2) (0.4%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
It has the fifth most land area of any county in Tennessee.
