Hamlin County is a county in South Dakota, which is a state in the United States.

As of the census in 2020, there were 6,164 people living there.

Hayti is the county seat.

The county was made in 1873, and in 1878 it was put together.

It was named after Lincoln’s first vice president, Hannibal Hamlin.

Hamlin County is made up of low, rolling hills with small lakes and ponds here and there. The majority of the land is used for farming.

The land slopes toward the south-southeast, and its highest point, at 1,949 ft (594 m) ASL, is on the eastern boundary line, near the NE corner.

The total area of Hamlin County is 538 square miles (1,390 km2), of which 507 square miles (1,310 km2) are land and 31 square miles (80 km2) are water, or 5.7%.
