Green County was made from parts of Lincoln County and Nelson County in 1792.
Green was the 16th county to be made in the state of Kentucky.
The county is named after Revolutionary War hero General Nathanael Greene, but no E is added at the end.
The U.S. Census Bureau says that the county is 289 square miles (750 km2) in size, with 286 square miles (740 km2) of land and 2.8 square miles (7.3 km2) of water (1%).
