Its name in French is Paroisse de Grant.
As of the census in 2020, there were 22,169 people living there.
Colfax is the parish seat.
In 1869, during the time of Reconstruction, the parish was started.
Grant Parish used to be a part of Rapides Parish, which was bigger and had more people.
Before the American Civil War, “Calhoun’s Landing,” which was named after the South Carolina-born cotton and sugar planter Meredith Calhoun, was the place where most things happened.
The parish has a total area of 665 square miles (1,720 km2), of which 643 square miles (1,670 km2) are land and 22 square miles (57 km2) (3.3%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
