The county was founded in February 1909 from Douglas County and is named for U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant.
Grant County is part of the Moses Lake, WA Micropolitan Statistical Area and the Moses Lake-Othello, WA Combined Statistical Area.
The county has a total area of 2,791 square miles (7,230 km2), of which 2,680 square miles (6,900 km2) is land and 112 square miles (290 km2) (4.0%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
It is Washington’s fourth-largest county in terms of land area.
