Williamstown is the county seat.
The county was established in 1820 and named after Colonel John Grant, who led a group of settlers to Grant’s Station in today’s Bourbon County, Kentucky, in 1779.
Grant County is part of the Cincinnati-Middletown, OH-KY-IN Combined Statistical Area.
The county has a total area of 261 square miles (680 km2), of which 258 square miles (670 km2) is land and 2.8 square miles (7.3 km2) (1.1%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
