Fulton County was made on December 21, 1842.

It was named for William Fulton, who was the last governor of the Arkansas Territory.

It is an alcohol-free county, also called a “dry” county.

The county has a total area of 620 square miles (1,600 km2), of which 618 square miles (1,600 km2) are land and 2.1 square miles (5.4 km2) (0.3%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
