Ford County is a county in the state of Illinois in the United States.
The 2010 United States Census said that there were 14,081 people living there.
Paxton is the county seat.
The Office of Management and Budget took Ford County out of the Champaign–Urbana, IL Metropolitan Statistical Area in 2018.
Ford County was made on February 17, 1859. It is the “newest” county in Illinois.
It was made because some people in Vermilion County told the General Assembly that they lived too far away from the county office.
Thomas Ford, who was Governor of Illinois from 1842 to 1846, gave his name to Ford County.
The US Census Bureau says that the county covers a total area of 486 square miles (1,260 km2), of which 486 square miles (1,260 km2) are land and 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2) (0.1%) are water.
