As of the census in 2020, there were 10,774 people living there.
Claxton is the county seat.
On August 11, 1914, the Georgia General Assembly passed a bill that made the county official.
Then, on November 3, 1914, the people voted on an amendment that made the county official.
The U.S. Census Bureau says that the county has a total area of 187 square miles (480 km2), of which 183 square miles (470 km2) are land and 4.0 square miles (10 km2) (2.1% of the total area) are water.
The Canoochee River, which runs through Evans County, is the largest body of water.
The Ogeechee River gets water from the Canoochee.
