Edwards County is a county in the United States state of Illinois.

The population was 6,245, according to the 2020 census.

Albion is the county seat.

Ninian Edwards, the governor of the Illinois Territory and, later, governor of Illinois, was named after Edwards County.

The county has a total area of 223 square miles (580 km2), of which 222 square miles (570 km2) is land and 0.3 square miles (0.78 km2) (0.1%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.

It is the fourth-smallest county in Illinois in terms of land area.

When Edwards County was established in 1814, it accounted for over half of the state of Illinois.

It spawned new counties until, in 1824, it took on its current form with the formation of Wabash County. The two counties are Illinois’ fourth and fifth smallest.

The Bonpas Creek separates Edwards County from Wabash County.
