Crawford County is a county in the United States state of Illinois.
The population was 19,817 at the time of the 2010 census.
Robinson serves as the county seat.
Crawford County was founded on December 31, 1816, from Edwards County in the Illinois Territory.
It covered almost one-third of the region when it was formed, but it had been reduced to its current bounds by 1831 as additional counties were formed.
It was named after Georgia’s William H. Crawford, who was Secretary of Defense and Secretary of the Treasury at the time.
The county has a total area of 446 square miles (1,160 km2), of which 444 square miles (1,150 km2) is land and 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2) (0.5%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
The Wabash River forms part of the county’s eastern border.
