Cole County is in the middle of the state of Missouri in the United States.
As of the census in 2020, there were 77,279 people living there.
Its county seat and biggest city is the state capital, Jefferson City.
The county was made on November 16, 1820.
It was named for William Temple Cole, an early settler who built Cole’s Fort in Boonville.
Cole County is in the Metro Statistical Area of Jefferson City, MO. It’s south of the Missouri River.
In 2010, most Missourians lived in Cole County, close to the village of Wardsville.
The U.S. Census Bureau says that the county covers 402 square miles (1,040 km2), of which 394 square miles (1,020 km2) are land and 8.2 square miles (21 km2) are water, or 2%.
It has the third smallest area of any county in Missouri.
