Claiborne County is a county in Tennessee, United States.
The population was 32,043 at the time of the 2020 census.
Tazewell is the county seat, and Harrogate is the largest city.
Claiborne County was formed on October 29, 1801, from Grainger and Hawkins counties, and its southern boundary was extended to Anderson County.
It was named after Virginia tidewater aristocrat William C. C. Claiborne, one of the first Tennessee Superior Court judges and one of Tennessee’s first representatives in the United States Congress.
The county has a total area of 442 square miles (1,140 km2), of which 435 square miles (1,130 km2) is land and 7.0 square miles (18 km2) (1.6%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
The Powell River and the Clinch River, which feeds into Norris Lake, are two major waterways. Bryson Mountain, Powell Mountain, Lone Mountain, Raven Hill, and Wallen Ridge are the major high points.
