Chowan County (/town/) is one of the 100 counties in the state of North Carolina in the United States.
As of the census in 2020, there were 13,708 people living there.
Edenton is the county seat.[3] Between 1668 and 1671, the county was made.
At first, it was called Shaftesbury Precinct, but it was later changed to Chowan Precinct. In 1739, it became a county.
The U.S. Census Bureau says that the county is 233 square miles (600 km2) in size, with 172 square miles (450 km2) of land and 61 square miles (160 km2) of water, or 26%.
It has the smallest land area and the third-smallest total area of any county in North Carolina.
