Chelan County is a county in the U.S. state of Washington.
It is pronounced (/lan/, sh-LAN).
As of the census in 2020, there were 79,074 people living there.
Wenatchee is the county seat and biggest city.
On March 13, 1899, the county was made from Okanogan County and Kittitas County.[3][4] It gets its name from a Chelan Indian word that means “deep water,” which is probably a reference to Lake Chelan, which is 55 miles (89 km) long and goes as deep as 1,486 feet (453 m).
The Wenatchee, Washington, Metropolitan Statistical Area includes Chelan County.
The US Census Bureau says that the county has a total area of 2,994 square miles (7,750 km2), of which 2,921 square miles (7,570 km2) are land and 73 square miles (190 km2) (2.5%) are water.
It has the third most land size of any county in Washington.
