The name of the county comes from a French word that means “open level country.”On March 1, 1805, Ohio got its 18th county, which was Champaign County.
It was made by putting together parts of Greene and Franklin counties.
The Urbana, OH Micropolitan Statistical Area is part of Champaign County and is also part of the Dayton–Springfield–Sidney, OH Combined Statistical Area.
The county has a total area of 430 square miles (1,100 km2), of which 429 square miles (1,110 km2) are land and 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2) (0.3%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
