The population was 4,547 as of the 2020 census, making it Pennsylvania’s least populous county. Emporium serves as the county seat.
On March 29, 1860, the county was formed by combining parts of Clinton, Elk, McKean, and Potter Counties. Senator Simon Cameron’s name is on it.
The county has a total area of 398 square miles (1,030 km2), of which 396 square miles (1,030 km2) is land and 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2) (0.5%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
It has a warm-summer humid continental climate (Dfb), with average monthly temperatures ranging from 24.2 °F in January to 69.3 °F in July in Emporium and 24.9 °F in January to 69.9 °F in Driftwood.
