The population was 42,745 at the time of the 2020 Census.
Camdenton is the county seat.
Kinderhook County was established on January 29, 1841, and was renamed Camden County in 1843 in honour of Charles Pratt, 1st Earl Camden, Lord Chancellor of the United Kingdom and leader of the British Whig Party.
Camden County is also the setting for the Netflix series Ozark.
The county has a total area of 709 square miles (1,840 km2), of which 656 square miles (1,700 km2) is land and 53 square miles (140 km2) (7.4%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
