Callaway County is a county in the state of Missouri in the United States.

Fulton is the county seat.

The county was set up on November 25, 1820, with the Missouri River as its border.

It was named for Captain James Callaway, who was the grandson of Daniel Boone.

The county has been called “The Kingdom of Callaway” in the past because some locals fought against Union troops during the American Civil War.

The Jefferson City, Missouri, Metropolitan Statistical Area includes Callaway County.

The county has a total area of 847 square miles (2,190 km2), of which 835 square miles (2,160 km2) are land and 13 square miles (34 km2) (1.5%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
