During the Texas Revolution, the county was named after Mathew Caldwell, a ranger captain who fought in the Battle of Plum Creek against the Comanches and Santa Anna’s armies.
Caldwell also endorsed the Texas Declaration of Independence.
Caldwell County is included in the Austin metropolitan area.
