The county’s population was 10,567 as of the 2020 census.
Marble Hill is the county seat, the largest and only city.
Agriculture and construction are important industries in the largely rural county.
The county was formed in March 1851 from portions of Wayne, Cape Girardeau, and Stoddard Counties and named after an early settler, George Frederick Bollinger.
Bollinger County is included in the Cape Girardeau, MO-IL Combined Statistical Area.
The county has a total area of 621 square miles (1,610 km2), of which 618 square miles (1,600 km2) is land and 3.3 square miles (8.5 km2) (0.5%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
The county’s terrain varies from the flatlands of the Mississippi Delta in the south to the Ozark Hills in the north.
