As of the census in 2020, there were 63,705 people living there.
Laconia is the county seat.
It is in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, just southeast of the state’s geographical centre.
Belknap County is part of the Laconia, NH Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is part of the Boston-Worcester-Providence, MA-RI-NH-CT Combined Statistical Area.
The county has a total area of 469 square miles (1,210 km2), of which 400 square miles (1,000 km2) are land and 68 square miles (180 km2) (15%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
It has the second-smallest land area of any county in New Hampshire.
Lake Winnipesaukee makes up most of the water area in the county.
