Barren County is a county in the U.S. state of Kentucky’s south-central region.
The population was 44,485 at the time of the 2020 census.
Glasgow is the county seat. On December 20, 1798, the county was formed from sections of Warren and Green Counties.
Barren County was formed in 1798 from land taken from Green and Warren counties.
Throughout its history, the county has had six courthouses, the earliest of which was built of wood.
The county has a total area of 500 square miles (1,300 km2), of which 488 square miles (1,260 km2) is land and 12 square miles (31 km2) (2.5%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
