Barbour County is a county in the United States.
It is in the north center of West Virginia. At the 2020 census, there were 15,465 people living there.
Philippi, which was founded in 1844, is the county seat. Philip P. Barbour (1783–1841) was a U.S. Congressman from Virginia and an Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.
The county and city were both named after him.
In 1843, when the county was made, the area was still part of the state of Virginia. In 1871, a small piece of Barbour County, West Virginia, was moved to Tucker County.
The county has a total area of 343 square miles (890 km2), of which 341 square miles (880 km2) are land and 1.8 square miles (4.7 km2) (0.5%) are water, according to the US Census Bureau.
