The parish of Avoyelles, which is called Paroisse des Avoyelles in French, is in the middle of eastern Louisiana.
It is on the Red River, where it turns into the Atchafalaya River and flows into the Mississippi River.
As of the census in 2020, there were 39,693 people living there.
Marksville is the parish seat.
The parish was made in 1807.
Its name comes from the French word for the Avoyel people, who were one of the local Indian tribes when Europeans first came to the area.
The parish has a total area of 866 square miles (2,240 km2), of which 832 square miles (2,150 km2) are land and 33 square miles (85 km2) (3.8%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
