Appling County is named after Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Appling, a War of 1812 soldier.
Appling County, Georgia’s 42nd county, was formed on December 15, 1818, by an act of the Georgia General Assembly.
The county has a total area of 512 square miles (1,330 km2), of which 507 square miles (1,310 km2) is land and 5.2 square miles (13 km2) (1.0%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
