This made it the fifth-least populated county in Idaho. Council is the county seat and biggest city.
When the county was made in 1911, it was named for the second president of the United States, John Adams.
The Brundage Mountain ski area is northeast of New Meadows, and the Little Ski Hill is west of McCall. Both are in Adams County.
The Snake River separates the west side of Adams County from the east side of Oregon.
The county has a total area of 1,370 square miles (3,500 km2), of which 1,363 square miles (3,530 km2) are land and 6.7 square miles (17 km2) (0.5%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
