The population was 519,572 at the time of the 2020 census.
Brighton is the county seat.
The county is named for Alva Adams, the first Governor of Colorado from 1887 to 1889. [1] Adams County is included in the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Combined Statistical Area.
The county has a total area of 1,184 square miles (3,070 km2), of which 1,168 square miles (3,030 km2) is land and 16 square miles (41 km2) (1.4%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
Adams County encircles (and has surrendered property for) the majority of Denver International Airport, which is owned by the City and County of Denver.
