The ceremonial county of West Yorkshire is in the English region of Yorkshire and the Humber.

In the north and east, it shares borders with North Yorkshire.

In the south, it shares borders with South Yorkshire and Derbyshire.

In the south-west, it shares borders with Greater Manchester. The biggest town is Leeds, which is a city.

At 2,029 km2 (783 sq mi), the county is the fourth-largest ceremonial county by population. It is home to 2.3 million people. There are a lot of cities in West Yorkshire.

Many settlements are part of the 1.78 million-person West Yorkshire built-up area. Cities Leeds (516,298) and Bradford (366,187), along with Huddersfield (162,949) and Wakefield (109,766), have the most people living in them. The west of the county has more open space.

Five metropolitan boroughs run the county: the City of Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, the City of Leeds, and the City of Wakefield. They work together through the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.
