Faiyum Governorate

Faiyum Governorate, also known as Muḥāfāzah Al Fayyūm in Arabic, is located in the center of Egypt.

Its capital is Faiyum, which is located around 81 miles (130 kilometers) southwest of Cairo. It has a total population of 3,848,708 (2020).

The name Faiyum originates from Coptic ̀Ⲫⲓⲟⲙ /Ⲡⲉⲓⲟⲙ efiom/peiom (whence the proper name Ⲡⲁⲓⲟⲙ payoum), meaning the Sea or the Lake, which in turn comes from late Egyptian pA y-m of the same meaning, a reference to the adjacent Lake Moeris.
