Haut-Uélé (French for “Upper Uélé”) is one of the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s 21 new provinces established by the 2015 repartitioning.
The old Orientale province was divided into four provinces: Haut-Uélé, Bas-Uélé, Ituri, and Tshopo.
Haut-Uélé was founded by combining the Haut-Uélé district, with Isiro serving as the new province’s capital.
