Rapides Parish is a parish in the U.S. state of Louisiana.
In French, it is called Paroisse des Rapides.
As of the census in 2020, there were 130,023 people living there.
Alexandria, which grew up along the Red River of the South, is the parish seat. “Rapids” in French is “rapides.”
In 1807, after the United States bought this land from France in the Louisiana Purchase, the parish was made.[3]
The Louisiana metro area that includes Alexandria also includes Rapides Parish.
The parish has a total area of 1,362 square miles (3,530 km2), of which 1,318 square miles (3,410 km2) are land and 44 square miles (110 km2) (3.2%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
It has the most land area of any parish in Louisiana.
