Geography
Bodi was created in 2012 out of the Juaboso district and occupies its south-eastern part. It sits in the middle of the Western North Region, in moist forest country of low hills and stream valleys with rainfall spread over two wet seasons. Forest reserves take up a sizeable share of the land. The district lies between Juaboso to the north-west and Sefwi-Wiawso to the south-east, and it also adjoins Sefwi Akontobra.
Economy and Local Life
Cocoa is the principal crop and the reason for the spread of small farm villages across the district. Oil palm, plantain, cocoyam, cassava and maize are grown for food and for sale, and rubber has been taken up on some holdings. Timber is cut in the forest zone and small-scale gold mining occurs in places. Sefwi Bodi holds the district assembly, the main market and the health facilities; smaller weekly markets serve the outlying villages, many of which carry the name of the farmer who first cleared the land.
Getting There
Sefwi Bodi sits on the road between Sefwi Wiawso and Juaboso, so it is passed by most traffic heading into the north-west of the region. From Kumasi, drive through Bibiani and Sefwi Wiawso. Shared taxis and trotros serve the town from both directions through the day.
