Towns and Villages in Kilbet Rasu (Zone 2)
Kilbatti (Kilbat) Rasu is one of five zones of Ethiopia’s Afar Region. This zone is bordered on the south by Awsi Rasu, southwest by Fantí Rasu, west by the Tigray Region, and north by Eritrea.
Kilbet Rasu’s administrative center is Abala (also known in the highlands as Shiket). This zone also includes the former mining community of Dallol, which holds the record for the hottest inhabited place on Earth, with an average temperature of 34 °C.
According to the Central Statistical Agency of Ethiopia’s 2007 Census, this Zone has a total population of 350,111, with 195,404 males and 154,707 women. While 26,217 people, or 7.49%, live in cities, another 38,249, or 10.93%, are pastoralists.
