The legal county seat is Boston, but the courthouse is in New Boston.

The population was 92,893 at the time of the 2020 census.

The Texarkana metropolitan statistical area includes Bowie County.

The county is named after the legendary knife fighter James Bowie, who died at the Battle of the Alamo.

The county has a total area of 923 square miles (2,390 km2), of which 885 square miles (2,290 km2) is land and 38 square miles (98 km2) (4.1%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.

Bowie County, Texas is one of only three counties in Texas that share a border with another state (the others are Dallam and Cass).

Bowie County is located at the crossroads of Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.
