Grady County lies on gently rolling prairie in central Oklahoma, split by the Washita River, which crosses the county from northwest to southeast on its way to the Canadian River. It borders Canadian County to the north, McClain County to the east, Garvin County to the southeast, Stephens County to the south, Comanche County to the southwest and Caddo County to the west.

History
Grady County was organized in 1907, when Oklahoma became a state, from portions of the former Chickasaw Nation and Indian Territory. It is named for Henry W. Grady, editor of the Atlanta Constitution and a well-known Southern orator of the late 19th century. Chickasha, the seat, was founded in 1892 as a stop on the Rock Island railroad line and grew quickly as a cotton and cattle shipping point.
