The county was made in 1901 when Oklahoma Territory was made.

It was named after the tribe of Comanche people.

Comanche County is part of the metro statistical area for Lawton, OK.

The county has a total area of 1,084 square miles (2,810 km2), of which 1,069 square miles (2,770 km2) are land and 14 square miles (36 km2) (1.3%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
