List of Towns, Villages and Cities in Glamorgan

The historic county of Glamorgan, also known as Glamorganshire (Welsh: Morgannwg [mɔrˈɡanʊɡ] or Sir Forgannwg [ˈsiːr vɔrˈɡanʊɡ]), is one of the thirteen counties of Wales.

It used to be the administrative county of Wales.

In the early Middle Ages, there was a small kingdom with shifting borders called the Kingdom of Morgannwg (or Glywysing) in Welsh.

The Normans invaded and took it over as the Lordship of Glamorgan.

The land that became Glamorgan was both rural and pastoral, and it was also a place where the Welsh princes and the Norman lords fought.

It was clear what it was because there were so many castles in it.

Glamorgan is made up of three separate areas: the industrial valleys, the agricultural valleys, and the beautiful Gower Peninsula. In the north, the county borders Brecknockshire.

In the east, it borders Monmouthshire, and in the west, it borders Carmarthenshire. The Bristol Channel is to the south.

The whole area is 2,100 km2 (811 sq mi), and there were 1,288,309 people living in the three preserved counties of Glamorgan in 1991.

Glamorgan has two cities: Swansea and Cardiff. Cardiff is the county town and, since 1955, the capital city of Wales. At 600 metres (2,000 ft) above sea level, Craig y Llyn is the highest point in the county. It is near the village of Rhigos in the Cynon Valley.
